Back in the day, as locals and proud of it, our way of knowing a tourist from a non-tourist was just seeing if they were wearing birkenstocks. Ok, i hate birkenstocks, the traditional double strap ones. Regardless of comfort, they are ugly. But i broke down and bought a pair of the giza thong design sandal, in a simple black leather, and love them! i have high arches, 4 kids and in the summer i wear them everywhere. Please do not let me see you in them in the winter. I will assume you are on crack. I do have birkenstocks in summer , but somehow some people make it look way cooler, don’t know how.
